Early Childhood Teachers often find it difficult to get to professional development. We know this. We also know this isn’t because you don’t value learning; it’s because of the myriad of things you have to do every day, the curriculum development, planning, meetings and study, not to mention having a personal life of your own.
We wondered, what could work? How could we make it easier for ECTs to access our services? We talked to people in the sector to get their ideas and suggestions. We considered the events that had high participation from ECTs and looked at what was different about them.
All of these ponderings led us to think that what would be really useful was a one-on-one, specialised approach to meet the specific needs of the individual ECT.
And so, we bring you the ECT Mentoring and Coaching Program. There are many ways of imparting knowledge and sharing wisdom and it does not have to be delivered in a ‘classroom’ environment. Mentoring and Coaching are high impact, easy access approaches that allow you to work on what matters and is important to you. Mentoring and Coaching are different, and we will work with you to discover which approach is best for you. Both will support your personal and professional development, building skills and confidence to support you to be the best you can be.
All you need to do is complete the application form or give us a call and we can do that with you over the phone. You might wish to be matched with a mentor to prompt you to explore your thoughts more deeply, to improve your practice and remain fresh and current in your role, to challenge your personal beliefs and assumptions. Maybe you have a very specific skill gap that you need support to improve, for example communicating with families, managing conflict or documenting children’s learning. These are the types of issues where a coach is most helpful.
If you are an ECT in a state funded kindergarten you are eligible for a limited number of sessions for free through our LTS program. If you are an ECT in a LDC you are welcome to take up this opportunity through our fee for service offerings. You can access the service over the phone or face to face if you prefer, in locations where we have providers.
Whatever it is, having someone outside of the workplace to share your work concerns and provide support, encouragement and maybe even a little push is extremely beneficial. Give us a call or complete the application form so we can get you started as soon as possible.
